Community Based Education/Training

A great start in school can mean a great start in life.  Help a child you know be screened, be encouraged, and be ready.  CBETS, through Rainbows United, offers ideas, screening, specific services and resources to support each child's education.

Idea exchange sessions for Early Childhood Providers
  • Through one-on-one conversation, group sessions, or structured in-service training, Rainbows' specialists can talk with caregivers about the specific needs of a child, or children, in care.
  • Vists to the home or child care center, to observe how the child functions in his current setting, followed by suggestions of strategies that address concerns.
  • Staff training from CBETS team members to develop plans for children in care.
  • Free in-service training for parents and child care providers, to address the latest in early childhood development (approved through Kansas Department of Health and Environment for child care providers).

Free Developmental Screenings for Preschoolers

  • A child screening is like a well baby check for educational development.  Even if delays are not suspected, a screening can help determine whether the child is developing on track.
  • Speech and language skills, motor skills, self-help skills, and behavior, social and cognitive abilities are checked and evaluated.
  • Specialists provide information related to developmental milestones and ideas for ways to enhance development.
  • Screens are free and open to the public.  They can be individually scheduled, or obtained through screening clinics in community settings.

Direct Services

  • If a concern is noted during a screening, Rainbows United staff will guide families and providers through the process to get needed services.
  • Services are provided at no cost to families or child care providers.
  • Services are based on each child's needs.
  • Physical and occupational therapy, speech therapy, behavior consultation and strategies, and educational activities are among the services offered.
