Family Support Services

"We didn't know how much help was available until we asked." Parent

Rainbows' In-Home Respite Care provides families with a much-needed break from the daily care of children or adults with disabilities.  There are three different types of care available:

  • Respite -- occasional or temporary assistance of at least three hours in the family's home or in the provider's licensed home.  Requests must be made by parents or guardians and should be received at least seven days before the date of service.
  • Overnight Respite -- 15 consecutive hours including a nighttime sleep period.  Requests should be received at least three weeks before the start of respite.
  • On-Going Home Care or Supportive Home Care -- regularly occurring care provided in the family's home or provider's licensed home.  Requests should be written in the format of a monthly schedule and received at least seven days before the beginning date of service.

Camp Woodchuck Painting the Town- Season Two

Over 100 children and young adults ages 6 – 21 with multiple disabilities enjoy summer camp activities at Rainbows' Camp Woodchuck. The energetic group enjoys recreational and leisure activities with a different theme each week all summer long through services at 2258 North Lakeway Circle, Wichita, Kansas.

This summer’s theme is “Camp Woodchuck Painting the Town - Season Two.” Campers have taken on community service projects to give back to others in need. This year’s activities feature a camp choir that practices daily and performs upon request at the center as well as around town.

To attend Camp Woodchuck, participants must have a diagnosis of mental retardation or a developmental disability. Each camper receives individual attention, assistance and supervision as needed. “It’s the perfect option for those who have restricted mobility or use a wheelchair,” says Deb Voth, Vice President. “The annual talent show is one of my favorites.”
