Kathy became part of the Rainbows family in 1993 when her previous employer, Wichita Council for Preschool Blind (WPCB), was acquired by Rainbows. She is now the only WPCB staff still employed by Rainbows. Kathy’s favorite part about working at Rainbows is the family environment in the office and of course the annual holiday lunch that she brings her famous glazed ham to every year.
Kathy is often the first phone contact for families seeking services for their children birth to three years old. Kathy also helps coordinate and process the mountain of paperwork and data that is necessary for funding the program. “Kathy is a jewel in Infant/Toddler Services. She keeps track of everyone, helps us all meet out deadlines and is always looking for ways of making our processes more efficient,” says her supervisor, Paco Price, Sedgwick County Infant/Toddler Services Coordinator. Kathy does data entries, creates and runs reports, scans, copies, emails, and many other tasks around the office. “My position involves a lot of variety so I don’t get bored doing the same thing over and over all day long. I never know what the next phone call will bring or what will be on my desk after I leave for the day,” said Kathy.
When Kathy isn’t working she enjoys fixing up her recently purchased house and singing karaoke. She also enjoys camping and fishing. Most of Kathy’s family lives out-of-state but she says they spend a lot of time together through Facetime. She has two children, seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and another on the way. She says that it is common for another coworker to come in and see the latest picture of her great-grandchildren.
