Mental Health Assistant

Assist Mental Health Specialist by carrying out the Individual Support Plans for children birth to age 5.


· Assists with the screening of children 0-5 and the collection of data for the Mental Health Department.

· Works with the Mental Health Specialists to observe and implement interventions in the classroom and/or in the home environment.

· Communicates with Mental Health Specialists, teachers, and parents regarding progress of children served.

· Models appropriate interactions with children, for teachers in the classroom and parents in the home setting.

· Assist parents with identification of needed resources and acquisition of services in the community.

· Assist Mental Health Specialists by creating social/emotional tools and activities for the use in the classroom and home environment.

· Advocate for a positive relationship of the parent with the child and with the classroom teacher.

· Assists in group activities with children, formal trainings of teachers, workshops for parents, etc.

· Attends and participates in department and multidisciplinary team meetings.

· Attends trainings and in-service meetings as required by RUI.

· Possess a genuine caring for, and interest in children.

· Performs other duties as assigned.


· Bachelor’s Degree in Social Services related field.

· Previous experience of 1-2 years working with families preferred.


· Must be a self-starter and work independently as well as a great team player.

· Excellent written and verbal communication.

· Excellent people skills.

· Ability to perform work tasks within the physical demand requirements as outlined below.

· Strong organizational, interpersonal & communication skills required.


WORK PACE: Self-paced, requiring the ability to think and act quickly and efficiently in a fast-paced, demanding work environment.
