“My favorite part of my job is seeing the excitement in children when they have overcome obstacles, learned something new, or have done a task they thought they couldn’t accomplish. It is amazing to see them light up with joy, and to see how proud they are of themselves.” –Janelle Jeffrey, Mental Health Specialist
Janelle fell in love with Rainbows when working in our Bright Beginnings office as a Social Work practicum student while obtaining her Bachelor’s degree in 2015-2016. She loved learning about the variety of services available to the Wichita community and surrounding areas, and was amazed to see how passionate the staff was in supporting the children and families they served.
She also admired how well everyone worked together to make sure the families received everything they needed to be successful. “I knew from the very beginning that Rainbows was a place I wanted to work at long-term,” she said.
After earning both her Bachelors and Masters in Social Work at Wichita State University, Janelle provided case management and family therapy services to children, families, and adults. She joined Rainbows in June of 2019.
The majority of Janelle’s work is done with children who have been identified having social-emotional needs or delays. She serves these children either at their home or in their pre-k classroom. They work together to build on skills such as self-regulation, behavioral control, attachment and relationships, and initiative.
Janelle also spends time providing specialized trainings to Rainbows’ staff and community partners. “My biggest achievement is creating specialized trainings to help support other Rainbows’ staff members and our community partners to support their growth and knowledge of child development,” she said.
“Janelle loves what she does for a living and it shows through in her work,” said Audra Kenneson, Early Childhood Mental Health Coordinator. “Her bright, energetic spirit draws people in. Teachers who have worked with her regularly express their gratitude for her generous and supportive nature. She is a wonderful ambassador for Rainbows and for the Early Childhood Mental Health team.”
“I think all around I love making connections with the families I serve, and other Rainbow’s staff members, as well as spending time with my team,” said Janelle. “I love everything about working here!”
In her spare time, Janelle likes reading, fishing, and going to concerts. She especially enjoys spending time with her husband, daughter, and their dog. Together, they love family game nights and going camping.
