Adventure Awaits You!

Camp Woodchuck 2017

Ahoy, matey!

As the school year comes to an end, things are ramping up here at Rainbows. Summer is near, meaning preparation for Camp Woodchuck 2017 is well underway.  This year, Camp is all about pirates! Rainbows’ Kids’ Cove location will undergo a transformation into Pirates’ Cove, with a Treasure Island theme.

Adventure awaits those attending this year…

As always, Camp Woodchuck will provide a summer recreational experience and leisure day program for children and young adults with disabilities. Running June 1 – August 4, Camp is full of awesome activities! Campers will venture out on field trips to the YMCA, the Sedgwick County Zoo, and more; the Camp Choir will perform a number of songs at local businesses; Annual Camp events have been scheduled, such as the Fashion Show, Talent Show, and Art Show, where Campers can show off their skills and volunteers are utilized to help set-up the event and serve yummy treats; Camp Staff and Campers will commemorate Rainbows’ 45th agency anniversary with a unique “birthday party” celebration; and numerous volunteer-led activities have been planned for the summer, like a special spa day and an afternoon of carnival games.

Rainbows loves volunteers, and we are always looking for ways to engage the local community. If you or a group you are involved with has an interest in volunteering for Rainbows during the summer months, Camp Woodchuck is a great way to do it!

There are tons of ways to get involved, from ongoing roles to one-time needs. For more information, please email Sidni Garwood, Volunteer Coordinator at sgarwood@rui.org or call at 316.558.3422.

Applications and enrollment packets have been steadily streaming in, and we are prepared for another full Camp this year! Rainbows’ has also been hard at work hiring talented Camp Staff. Over half of the current Camp employees for 2017 are returning from last year. This just proves how fun Camp Woodchuck really is! Should you or someone you know have an interest in employment at Camp Woodchuck, more details can be found here.

You can read more about this special summer experience on Rainbows’ Studio Blog. Both Lindsay Coffee and Justinh Truong worked at Camp last year and wrote about their individual perspectives.

So, are you ready for this summer? Because we sure arrrrrgh! See you at Camp.
