Cheyenne Hancock joined Rainbows for Camp Woodchuck in 2020, when Camp was home-based due to Covid. “It was very nerve racking to me because I had never worked in this field before,” said Cheyenne. “However, I quickly got over those nerves and fell in love with my position as a Direct Support Professional. I always wanted to work in a field that deals with helping people and I had found my place. When Camp Woodchuck returned to Kids’ Cove in 2023, it was a blast to have all the kids and other DSPs together.”
During the school year, Cheyenne provides services to several school-aged children. As a Full Time DSP, Cheyenne goes to the families’ homes, supporting each of her client’s unique needs, and being one of their biggest supporters. One of her favorite things to do with her clients is plan fun outings in the community like bowling, shopping, and eating out. She also enjoys letting her creative side shine by putting together craft kits and activities to do with her youths.
“My favorite part about my job is forming close, unique relationships with each and every one of the kids I serve and their families,” Cheyenne said. “I absolutely love my working as a DSP because it’s like having my own little pack of best friends to hang out with. I tell everyone that I love my job because I think that is one of the most important things in life.”
“I feel like working at Rainbows has made me 1000% more confident in my abilities,” said Cheyenne. “I have grown tremendously since I first started in 2020, both as a person and a DSP. I will forever be grateful for the love and support I have received from my coordinators, coworkers, and families since working at Rainbows.”
In her free time, Cheyenne likes to spend time with friends, family, and her dog Cocoa. She also enjoys writing poetry, baking, and watching movies. As mentioned before, Cheyenne loves to be creative, so she recently started her own small business selling handmade products.
