Wichita, KS – Rainbows’ Board of Directors is pleased to announce Rachel Banning has taken the position of President. Banning comes to Rainbows from the Orpheum Performing Arts Centre where she was Executive Director since 2021 where she has spearheaded an extensive renovation of the historical landmark. She has previous experience with Families Together as a Center Director.
Banning has a bachelor’s degree in political science and government from Wichita State University and is a Certified Fund Raising Executive.
“Rainbows holds a special place in my heart. Leading this esteemed and crucial community Agency is a responsibility I deeply respect. I eagerly anticipate upholding the strong groundwork laid before me and envisioning a bright future ahead,” said Banning.
A lifelong Wichitan, Banning has been involved with Junior League of Wichita since 2016; she served as President of the organization 2019 – 2021. She is a member of Downtown Wichita Rotary, a board member of Phillips Fundamental Learning Center, a member of Leadership Wichita class of 2018, plus she was recognized by the Wichita Business Journal as a 40 Under 40 honoree in 2012.
“We believe Rachel is well and uniquely qualified to lead Rainbows to the next level,” said Pat Gearhart, Board Chair. “Her professional and personal experiences make her well equipped to identify with families served, staff and our many community partners and supporters. We are quite excited about the possibilities for the Agency under Rachel’s leadership.”
She starts her new position at Rainbows United, Monday, June 10.
Gearhart added, “We are profoundly grateful that Deb Voth was willing to step out of retirement to serve as Rainbows’ Interim President these last 8.5 months, and we thank her for continuing her wonderful legacy of leadership in serving children with special needs and their families in this unique way.”
