Vice President of Programs & Services, Rainbows United

What do you do in your role? I ensure our organization’s operations are efficient and effective. I work alongside a team of skilled executives to ensure we are streamlining processes and using our resources at optimal levels. Our highest priority is making sure children with an intellectual and/or developmental delay receive quality services for both themselves as well as their families.

Why do your coworkers consider you an unsung hero? My coworkers likely consider me an unsung hero because I focus on decision making behind the scenes in a meaningful and thoughtful way. In my role, I pour my heart into developing high-quality, individualized services for children with special needs and their families — work that doesn’t always draw the spotlight but is vital to the lives we touch. I lead with humility, empower my team, and ensure that staff and families feel seen, heard, and supported. I think that commitment, consistency, and care — shown day in and day out — is what makes me an unsung hero in the eyes of those I work with.

What’s the best part of your job? Knowing my work directly contributes to improving the lives of children and families with exceptionalities is deeply rewarding. My cup overflows every day with staff success stories or families that share how they’ve been impacted by the services we provide.

What advice do you have for those who’d like to be an unsung hero? Good old-fashioned hard work and humility. Never ask a staff member to do something you wouldn’t do yourself. Remain focused on the collective efforts of the team; a positive attitude goes a long way.
