Youth Summer Experience = Growth + Joy

Camp Woodchuck in Space

Camp tie-dye activity

Camp Woodchuck, Rainbows’ summer experience for school-aged children, ages 6-21 years old with special needs, is in full swing!  We have a summer filled with fun activities, meet-ups, special events, and field trips for our 40 campers.  Our theme for the summer is “Camp Woodchuck in Space.”

We do our weekly meetups where Campers participate in different group activities such as tie dye, making necklaces, bingo, water play, science experiments, making keychains, sand art and many other fun activities. These meetups and community outings help the campers work on their social skills and get more comfortable being out in the community with other people. When a Camper occasionally needs assistance working through these situations our Direct Support Professionals are always nearby to give one on one support to help each person be successful.

Campers have the opportunity to model their own individual uniqueness on the red carpet with a fashion show, perform their special talent in the talent show, and express their creativity through making an original canvas for the art show. This year’s art show will be displayed in the Envision Arts, 801 E. Douglas, Suite 100 from July 14 – 30. Gallery hours are Tuesday – Friday 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Rainbows’ Campers will take field trips to Sedgwick County Zoo, Botanica, Exploration Place, movies, Krispy Kreme, Cowtown, Braum’s, and area splashpads.  They will also experience our annual Shaving Cream fight and a Car Show to name a few.

A special thank you goes to our families for allowing Rainbows the opportunity to serve your kids, the staff for being flexible and committed to give Campers a great camp experience, all the volunteers that dedicate their time and energy into making the field trips possible this summer, and to our donors for their generous donations to help make Camp Woodchuck an amazing experience for the youth we serve!
