“I am the mother of Micah John Wint, a fun-loving and energetic 2 ½ year old boy. Micah has been receiving Rainbows’ Speech Therapy for about 6 months now.
As his mom, I was initially concerned about his speech. It was just not where I expected it to be for his age. Because I am an Occupational Therapist, and one who used to work for Rainbows, I knew about the services offered and that they would help us get connected should Micah need help to get caught up.
I called Rainbows, got him signed up for an evaluation, and we went to one of the monthly screenings in September 2016. The therapists who conducted Micah’s assessment confirmed that Micah’s speech was behind where his peers typically are at that age. This meant he qualified for speech services through Rainbows. We got connected and have been getting visits from Speech-Language Pathologist, Kim Stewart, ever since.
Micah sees Kim twice a month. Kim makes personal visits to our family home to do therapy. On rare occasion, she has even visited the baby-sitter’s house for a session. Rainbows has had such a positive impact with our family. Over the past 6 months, I have definitely seen growth in his vocabulary and clarity. Micah loves Kim. She has such great ideas to improve his speech. She always gives us homework, and I have seen him grow so much in his ability to communicate and express himself. That is the most encouraging part as a mother, because you just want your child to be understood and have the ability to engage with others.”
