The Autism Resource Guide is designed to help parents and caregivers identify services in Sedgwick County for young children (ages 2 – 8) who have a new diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder. It includes details that may be helpful to families who are unfamiliar with disability services and contact information for local providers who have experience serving children with autism.
The information provided in this guide is not medical advice. It is general information that we hope will be helpful for parents and caregivers. Every child with autism is unique, and for this reason, the information in this guide may not be applicable to everyone.
This guide frequently refers to materials developed by Autism Speaks, a national awareness and research organization. This is because their website offers detailed information on a variety of topics relating to autism in early childhood. For a full list of their toolkits and guides, see: www.autismspeaks.org/directory. Several of these materials are available in other languages.
This guide was made possible by grants from the Lattner Family Foundation and the Kansas Health Foundation.
