After learning Rainbows’ story and mission, Lola King was truly inspired and wanted to join the team to help serve kids and families in the community. The Lead Early Care and Education Teacher in Classroom 4 (the one-year-olds), Lola loves seeing the toddlers grow up and transition into the next classroom. “It’s a big change from one to two years old,” she said. “These kiddos start in my classroom typically not using any words, and by the time they leave they’re calling my name and asking for things in complete sentences. It really brings a lot of joy to my heart.”
While there is no such things as a normal day with one-year-olds, each day is filled with varying subjects from science to math to art and fine motor skills. And lots of singing and laughing. “Most of the time we go with the flow,” said Lola. “I try to stay very adaptable in the classroom and think on my feet!”
Early Care and Education Coordinator Michelles Croomes said, “Lola is an absolute self-starter and that was clear from her first weeks at Rainbows. The way that she dove into learning the ins and outs of early care classrooms was full of enthusiasm. She carried that enthusiasm to apply for and receive a grant to further her education with a Child Development Associate Credential, and then earned the Credential. I’m sure she’ll continue to do well in the future!”
When she’s not working or studying, Lola enjoys cooking and baking. She loves to try new recipes and bake things for her coworkers and her husband, Landon. She also likes being outdoors doing things like hiking and camping.
